When you talk about Candy Cocktails, it is not about where it began, it is more about where it is going. Infusing vodka was a tradition within these walls long before I got here. About two years ago, I saw these jars as untapped potential for unique business. There are over 20 places you can visit on Main Street and get a Miller Lite. Some places try, but no one does infusions like we do. I saw the potential to provide a product that made us stand out, that would further steep us as a destination for great libations. Traditionalists, like Derek, saw potential in using natural food products to infuse the vodkas. Fresh Fruit was his key ingredient, making pineapple, raspberry, peach, and blueberry infusions. He even created a \"bloodless mary\" infusion using sun dried tomatoes.
My generation grew up with a constant need for a \"sugar high\" and I decided to invoke memories of those good times with my twist on the classic infusion. It started with a bag of Hershey kisses and some banana liquer, thus creating the chocolate covered banana, invoking summers at the shore and Charlie the ice cream man, who unfortunately is no longer with us.
The rest is history, as today Derek\'s boasts many different infusions at any given time. Candy Cocktails are a Tuesday night fixture. The infusions are on special for only $5 each. Flavors include twizzler, skittles, starburst, swedish fish, jolly rancher, nerds, gummy peach rings. The infusions have a gestation period of 24 hours before complete infusion has taken place.
